Gent Technical Service (GTS) owner Adriaan van Gent has worked for more then 20 years at the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN). MARIN has done a lot of full scale hull monitoring projects on FPSO’s, where Adriaan did a lot of instrumentation. Most of the instrumentation consisted of installing straingages inside waterballasttanks or outside on the main decks of FPSO’s or other floating constructions such offloading buoys. Not only the installation of the straingage and other sensors, was part of the job but also installation and use of monitoring software and related components. These projects were usually in Korea, Singapore and Angola.
GTS specialities are the installation of straingages on site and in difficult environments (dirt, grease).
A few projects were done together with Tarka Systems BV; the one to mention is a project where Tarka Systems BV did sell equipment to a chinese engineering service. The equipment consisted of serveral RTK GPS sensors, flowmeters, motionsensors and wavebuoy, which were used to monitor the floatover operation of an offshore platform in the Bo Hai bay in China. GTS Adriaan van Gent was there to help out during the operations.

Straingage in situ

GTS’s straingages expertise was discovered by Strukton during the start of CoVid early 2020. Since then GTS has executed already 6 short term and short notice straingage installations on site. These projects were not offshore related more civil engineering.
